WELCOME & CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR WONDERFUL NEWS!
About me My name's Jessica Thornton. I first started doulaing when I was just a young teen, though I had no idea that what I was doing had a name. In fact I didn't hear the term 'doula' until after the birth of my son Joseph in 2005. Giving birth lit a fire within me. I felt a primitive responsibility to support women and their families through this most precious time in their lives. I started passionately absorbing everything I could lay my hands on related to birth and breastfeeding and would listen to anyone and everyone who were happy to share their stories with me. Thankfully I stumbled across the word 'doula', signed myself up for a course straight away and the rest as they say is history. Why read on?
Research has shown that hiring a doula can cut the chances of medical interventions such as inductions, epidurals, instrumental births and caesareans by almost half. Women are less likely to request pain relief, tend to have shorter labours and have a more positive outlook of their birthing experience.
I work predominantly in Central/West London. The following Maternity units are within my area:
